Black Bean Burgers (oil-free)

If you’re looking for a black bean burger that’s quick to make and full of flavor, this is it! I love making this with these sweet potato fries or these vegan spicy cheddar fries. I also love making them with toasted sourdough bread instead of slider buns sometimes to change it up!

Ingredients: (Serves 4-Makes 8 typical-sized burgers or 12 slider-sized burgers)

Burgers

  • 2 cans of black beans (rinsed and drained)
  • 1/2 cup cilantro
  • 6 green onions
  • juice from 2 limes
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1 & 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup ground flaxseed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Toppings

  • Slider buns (Trader Joe’s has these!), regular buns, or toasted Sourdough bread
  • 2 large tomatoes
  • 2 avocados
  • Romaine lettuce
  • Ketchup (make sure it has no high fructose corn syrup) & Mustard

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Rinse the beans, and add them to a mixing bowl. Mash them with a fork.
  2. Chop the cilantro and green onions and add them in.
  3. Add remaining ingredients (except toppings) and mix.
  4. Refrigerate for 10-15 minutes.
  5. Heat a skillet to medium heat.
  6. Form the mixture into patties and cook them for about 5-7 minutes on each side (until they are browned).
  7. Add toppings and enjoy!
